The story that the children will learn has lots of wonderful descriptive vocabulary, which will really help to grow your child’s vocabulary and understanding.

Once you have had a little look through the PDF please follow this link to listen to the story. In Reception we like to make little actions to help us remember the story, and some of the special vocabulary. You might like to ask your child to do this at home too. https://soundcloud.com/talkforwriting/mavis

2.  Sum Dog: This week I would like you to practise ordering numbers to 10, enjoy!

3. RE: Today I would like you to hear how one of Jesus’ friends, Mary Magdalene, found out that he was alive again, and why this is a very important story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HcreK5TczY

When watching the story it would be worth discussing some of the vocabulary which your child might not understand (resurrected, Sabbath, sundown, observe, tomb, anoint). Following the video I would like you to discuss your thoughts and ask any questions about what you have learnt. Now, I would like you to think particularly about the moment that Mary saw the angel. How do you think she felt? What do you understand about angels?

Activity: Could you create your own hand print angel. This could go in your yellow book, along with a little summery about your discussion.

Miss Bassett.

Reception Home Learning - Tuesday 14th April

Firstly, I hope that you all had a lovely Easter break, celebrating this very special time as a family. Today marks the start of our final term in Reception, the year is whizzing by! I hope that you enjoy today’s home learning. Don’t forget the Lego challenge too– I know that lots of you are enjoying this!

1. PE with Joe Wicks—A great way to keep active some point today. (https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos )

2. Phonics: Please keep practising any of the sounds you know that your child struggles with.

4. Purple Mash: Today and tomorrow I would like you to create a picture about Easter. This could be part of the Easter story. What you did to celebrate Easter. Or even the whole Easter story. You can create as many as you would like to!

3. Sum Dog: Subtract within 5. Can you take away amounts within 5? Initially, get some physical apparatus for your child to use when carrying out this activity. Having 5 counters (whatever they might be-sweets or chocolate always works great!) allows your child to visualise and understand what they are doing. When they have developed their confidence they will no longer need to use equipment.

4. RE: Today I would like the children to think about what makes them happy and what makes them sad? Following this think back to the Easter celebration. What was the upsetting part? What was the happy part? Discuss the word ‘resurrection’. Then, in your yellow book, I would like you to either draw the sad and happy part of the Easter celebration, or to create your own craft tomb.

Reception home learning for Thursday 2nd April

1. PE with Joe Wicks—Start your day with a fun workout (https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos )

2. Phonics: Please continue to practise one of those tricky sounds that you identified last week.

For the rest of this week I would like you to focus on recognising the tricky words: I, the, to and me.

There are many fun activities that you could do to help your child to build their familiarity with these tricky words such as:

· Creating a bingo board using these words along with other 3/4 letter words. This could be a fun and competitive game for the family.

· Reading and spotting these words in stories

· Practise writing these words in fun ways: Using squeezy bottles of water outside, painting, gluing and sticking objects over the written word, icing biscuits and adding choc chips to spell out the words.

· Play the game 4 corners either inside or outside (always a fun game but it does need a few participants.

· Creating the words using Lego.

· Using your Purple mash login and creating a tricky word picture using 2Paint.

3. PE: Today  I would like you to continue to practise your ball control skills. If you have access to a bat and ball, you could practise striking a ball using the bat. If not, use what you have, be that a bounce ball/basket ball or football. Shuttlecocks for a game of badminton are a great way to practise overarm throwing too.  If you don’t have any of these available, you could still practise throwing and catching… just find an old scarf, scrunch it up and practise your catching skills.

4. Sum Dog: Remember that you can still practise our second challenge this week, comparing numbers to 10. This challenge will be available to use until Friday.

5. Home reading: If you have not yet been onto Oxford Owl to practise your child’s reading please do so following the link below to create your account and the following link to take you to the first set of books. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/
