Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 14th February

We’re halfway through the school year already! I am so proud of everything the children have achieved so far in year 3 and am really looking forward to some exciting learning in the next half of the year , hopefully accompanied by some warmer weather.

Worship

On this week’s Mark 10 Mission we listened to the Gospel and heard Jesus share a difficult teaching with the people. He told them that they will be blessed if they were poor, hungry, if they weep and when people hate them. Greg helped us understand how there is good news even in this hard message: That Jesus is always with us especially in difficult times. We prayed and invited Jesus to be close to us and then sang 'One and All' with Angel.

Our learning this week…

English We have spent this week adapting and writing our own Iron Man stories and included all the skills we have focused on this half term.

Our author of the month is Roger Hagreaves…author of the Mr Men books.

Maths -We have continued working with 3 digit number and practised counting forward and back in 2s, 20s, 5s, 50s and 25s.

Spelling - The spelling focus this week has been ‘ey’ sound spelt ‘eigh’ ‘ei’ and ‘ey’ - spellings have been sent home in our homework books and are on the homework blog.

Science - We had great fun in our sciencce lesson, identifying bones in our body and learning about them supporting - we all agreed that it’’s good we have bones otherwise we’d just be jelly like blobs. We also thought about why we have so many bones, what if we only had one bone in each finger? We wouldn’t be able to grip or bend!

Computing - On Tuesday it was safter internet day and we took part in a live BBC lesson all about scams and phishing. We used strategies to spot scams and thought about what we should do if we suspected we were being scammed. Report, report, report! You can find more about the live lesson or rewatch it on the BBC Website here.

Swimming - Our swimming lesson will continue after half term on a Thursday morning. This will be our last half term swimming, the children have made great progress and many of them have already achieved 25m.
