Even though we can’t hand in our home learning next Monday - please complete the following and hand back on our return - Thank you
READING
The children will be visiting the library this Friday - our final day. They will be bringing this book and a couple of books that match their ZPD. Please read daily - a break from this routine can have an impact over 2 weeks. Reading underpins all learning.
Reading opens up different worlds! Enjoy!
MATHS
We are now ready to tackle division problems. Please enter your TT Rockstars account and when you go into “Jamming” please select Division Only or Multiplication and Division. I’ve attached the image of the Jamming page to show you the buttons - have fun. Remember we can use skip counting to find out how many equal groups make the total.
SPELLING
Last week we explored words ending in the “l” sound. The spellings had different letters at end - le al il al - gosh it was tricky!!!
Play zones with your child:
This games works in a similar way to the ‘Corners’ party game. Place -le, -el, -al, -il on paper in four corners of the room. These need to be large enough to see from a distance. Provide paper and chunky pens in each zone. The adult says aloud a focus word and then within the context of a sentence, e.g. pencil. I’ve lost my pencil. Children must decide which spelling is needed to write the focus word and then move to the appropriate ‘zone’. Once in the zone, children can practise writing the word on the paper and decide whether it ‘looks right’
Words to use:
bottle middle castle muddle battle ankle tickle circle giggle puddle eagle
camel marvel travel squirrel angel parcel gospel
medal animal magical pedal
pencil until pupil gerbil
Have fun!
HANDWRITING
Write a 5 sentence diary challenge!! It has to be funny and written using your very best handwriting. No more or less than 5 sentence! Make sure it makes sense and is super neat!
Do complete before the holidays - then you can relax

This week we turn to Our Lady. The month of May has begun and so does our adoration for Jesus’ mother. Our Worship table has a beautiful statue and next week we will share the Rosary during worship time. If you have rosary beads at home please bring them into class and they can sit on the altar ready to be used. In RE we explored the Ascension of Our Lord and paid attention to what he asked the disciples to do - “wait in the city for the power to come”. We understand that they didn’t know what Jesus was telling them but they trusted him and waited. Now we wait too trust for Pentecost.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
Next week we start our new Geography Topic - we’ll be looking at the rainforest. What is the rainforest and where would you find it in the world? Unfortunately, the rainforest is being chopped down it is so important to our world. Watch this Laudato Si' video for our common home - a message from Pope Francis - click the picture to open the video.
MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING
The highlight of our week was our trip to the Theatre. We watched The Tempest with our lovely Year 4 partner class. The characters came to life and even though it was tricky to follow it was a visual feast and we really empathised with Ariel and Caliban. In class our drama lessons led to writing and we’ve written as Ariel once more - this time we were responding to feedback - this is something that we will keep doing so that we strive to achieve all our Year 2 goals. We’ve had fun with Mrs Mather in Art and Miss Bassett is really enjoying teaching time - this is the time to get a learning watch to wear in school- I’ve attached an image here. We’ve set up a germination experiment in science and we complete the week with -Theatre Reviews and gardening!
LET’S CELEBRATE
This week our Star Virtue goes to Heidi - Heidi is such an active and curious learner - not only that but she shares her friendship openly and lovely every single day.
Our Learning award goes to Alfie. Thank you Alfie for being a super enthusiastic scientist (again). You have consistently demonstrated resilience with your writing and maths. Thank you for being a great role model.

LINES TO LEARN
Welcome Year 2 to the Easter Assembly story! Each Year each class form Year 2 to Year 6 takes one part of the Easter story and performs an assembly one each day over a week. Together we tell the story to the whole class and it is wonderful for everyone especially our youngest children. The assemblies help us to piece together the events of Jesus final days and his glorious reresection.
Year 2, we have the job of producing the opening assembly- telling the story of Palm Sunday (Monday 7th April). We have already started staging the play. We have limited time in the hall so it is super important that you know your line and who you come after before this Friday. We all have a line to learn. I have given everyone a copy of the script to take home and I have attached the script here too in case it is mislaid. Remember to practice with your biggest voice. I have also attached the song we are learning which we sing at the end “The Lord of the Dance”
MATHS- GAMES
I have given the children a copy of the maths games WEEK 3 of 5 on card and the instructions and diary. A massive thank you to parents who completed the diary last time (printing it out at home) and giving some feedback. Have fun with these. I’ve attached here again just incase the pack is mislaid.
HANDWRITING AND SPELLING
When marking I have noticed a join the children are struggling with - this is the r. I have given the children a practice sheet with this join (attached below too). I have also chosen 5 red word to learn. These are “words for life” they also have the r join in them. Ask your child to show you how we learn these spelling in school using a piece of paper folded into quarters. We write the word (correctly): then copy; then fold and hid to spell without looking; then we finally write it with our eyes closed.
