Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 7th February "Let Jesus calm the storm within!"

It was so lovely to see you all at our assembly this week. Apart from our false start (I did apologies to the children for forgetting my glasses) - it was really magical! We wanted to be ambitious with sound and lighting and I think we pulled it off! The children now know this moment in Jesus’ life really well. In addition, they know all the disciples names! Mrs Carter has been poorly so many of us were on our own without a prompt - working with our friends to come in at the right part- and they did! The calming of the storm is part of our RE studies this term and the whole assembly has made us reflect on knowing Jesus is always there - we must have faith in him.

On Thursday three class members led us in a beautiful worship all about family. We listened to the story of Martha and Mary. We were given the following mission:

to pay more attention to those we love.

MAGIC MOMEMTS OF LEARNING

Fabulous focus in maths as the children applied their understanding of bridging to trickier numbers. We’ve had fun reading poems this week and today we wrote “riddle poems” of our own. Mrs Mather loved the art - we worked in pairs to create fantastic collages, it was a real opportunity to collaborate in a very creative way. Did you know that if a verb has one syllable, has a vowel in the middle that has a short vowel sound and is followed by one consonant - you have to double the consonant before adding ed and ing - WE DO!!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

This half term we have explored “An Attitude to Gratitude” in each of our My Happy Mind sessions. We have now completed the sessions and today we drew pictures of the people we were most grateful for to bring home and share with you. We also reflected on our first topic “Meet the Brain” - we talked about how happy breathing helps calm the mind and reengages the brain. Have fun practicing happy breathing at home and then when you need it you can use it!
