Christmas activities have been a plenty, ranging from making tree decorations, wreaths to decorating biscuits and writing letters to Santa, alongside and array of games. It certainly has been an action packed term! The children have been fantastic and we cannot thank them enough!

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Michelangelo

I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and Textiles. We have had such fun exploring the techniques of applique and cross stitch, with the outcome of designing, planning and making a cushion using the techniques learned, within the design criteria. The children have been so resilient, as sewing is such a tricky skill to learn. Their patience and determination in completing the tasks has been so humbling. We would like to thank the parent helpers, who came in to share their skills with the class. I know that the children found it a wonderful and helpful experience. Thank you so much for all your assistance!

It has been an absolute pleasure working with your children and I cannot wait for the New Year, where we turn our focus to painting and mixed-media!

Have a wonderful, magical, Holy Christmas

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Michelangelo

I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and structures. We have had such fun experimenting and exploring a range of techniques with a plethora of tools to create a model playground. From joining various materials using different techniques and resources to construct 5 different apparatus using three different structural methods. We have learned that a structure needs to be; strong, stiff and stable ( the three S’s) to be a viable structure, along with it being safe and aesthetically pleasing. I was blown away with the fact that some of their structures had moving parts, as this was not part of the design criteria To finish the term, the children grouped together and designed and made a Nativity Crib for each class in school. They were truly beautiful and the teachers were so touched by their gesture.

I cannot wait until the New Year, where we turn our attention to Painting and Mixed- Media.

Have a wonderful, magical, Holy Christmas

Power Prints!

This half term, the children have been homing in on their observational skills. From thinking about how shading can be used to express tone, observing and thinking about proportion, to using scissors to draw and create mechanical artwork. They have also had a go at making their very own scratch art! It has been absolutely wonderful taking the class through their journey of exploration into various art techniques to create a collaborative piece of art to end the unit.

Growing Artists!

We have had a wonderful time in art this half term, focusing on our drawing techniques to produce various botanical pieces of work. From observational drawing, shading, frottage and scientific study to produce amazing pieces. The children are such wonderful budding artists!

Marvellous Marks!

It has been so delightful welcoming Reception into the Create Room. This half term, the children have been busy exploring different media and mark making. From wax crayons to chalks and felt tips, we have thought about various marks we can make using different methods. The children have loved these sessions were very proud of their work.

Tell a story!

This half term has been an utter delight working alongside Year 2. Through the exploration of marks, observations, texture and characterisation, the children have taken a journey to create their own story through art. Each week building on previous learning to create their own book.

Make Your Mark!

What a joy it has been this half term, experimenting, exploring and investigating various media and mark making. The children have taken part in independent and collaborative tasks using new techniques to create pieces of art. The children have been so proud of what they have achieved and created, they are all such budding artists!

Make My Voice Heard!

This half term, we have been exploring an array of artistic influences. From Mayan art to Street art and Chiaroscuro, we have studied how, through art, we can make our voice heard. We have looked at how symbols within art can have an impact and how powerful these can be and come up with their own symbols to represent themselves. Using their knowledge and skills learned throughout the term, they will complete their own artistic piece after the half term break. It has been wonderful to watch they children grow in their artistic talent and I cannot wait to see how they will develop this further through the year!

A busy week in the garden!

This week, the children have been extra busy! We have started to transfer the plants into the raised beds, planted our final batch of potatoes and have added carrots. The allotment area is certainly starting to take shape and we can.t wait to taste the fruit and vegetables, when they are ready.

A weed is a plant, that is growing in the wrong place!

This week, we have weeded galore to prepare the raised beds for this years growing season. The beds are immaculate and ready to go! The children have been wonderful in digging out those unwanted plants, watering the seedlings thriving in the polytunnel and re organizing it, so we have more room for even more planting. I am so excited to see the array fruit and vegetables that we hope to produce this year.

Hope Park Update.

It seems such a short time ago, that we were at Hope Park planting bulbs with Fraser and his team. With the sun shining, we went to visit the park to see the fruits of our labour. We were so pleased to see the Daffodils in bloom, they certainly do brighten the dullest day and act as a reminder that warmer weather is on its way!

We also took the opportunity to have an Eco meeting reflecting on the year so far and the remaining time as Stewards of the Earth within Year 5. Each year, we have a fundraiser so that the current eco team leaves a legacy. They have come up with lots of ideas, so watch this space for more information!

Genesis 1:29 29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

This week has seen the start of the Our Lady’s growing season, with our lunchtime gardening club. A selection of children from Reception to Year 6, have joined in. Each week, we will be busy in the polytunnel and nurturing our raised beds in preparation for this years plants. It has been wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm shown, no matter the task! From transporting compost, removing shrub cuttings, planting potatoes and weeding, it is truly amazing how much you can achieve in such a short time, with amazing eager assistants!
