'Learning is an endless journey'.

Reception have been busy practising their assembly this week and have been working so hard. They are extremely excited to perform for you all next week - they keep asking how many sleeps?! - and I know you will be very proud of what they have accomplished. We certainly are and so are they.

We are really excited to share our Reception journey with you!

What have we been learning this week:

RE: This week we have been thinking about ‘The month of Mary’. We have thought about why Mary is special and why May is the time when Mary is celebrated. As part of our class worships and reflections throughout May, we will be looking at rosary beads and will be learning the rosary prayer.

Maths:
This week we have been consolidating lots of our Math’s skills in order to solve problems such as addition and more than / fewer than. We are becoming really speedy with our number facts and have used our knowledge of doubles to help us add amounts together with increasing speed! We have particularly enjoyed doing this when working out how many children have walked, scooted or cycled to school and we are becoming really confident at reading the data on our chart!

Understanding the World:
This half term our topic is ‘Water’. We have begun with our first wondering question, where does rain come from?

This week we have continued to explore the water cycle and have been busy working together to build and create our own water cycle display. We have used different media and material to create the symbols (cloud, sun, rain and bodies of water) and combined this with our literacy skills to create our own labels. We are thoroughly enjoying this topic and are looking forward to teaching you all about it in our assembly!

Stay and Play

We are really excited to share a final stay and play session with you and for you to come into class and see what we have been busy with throughout Reception!

We have two dates available:
Monday 24th June 9:10 - 10:00
Wednesday 26th June 14:10 - 15:00

Due to staffing and ratio’s, we kindly ask that you only select 1 of the above dates. If you are able to attend either, it would be greatly appreciated if you could select this option as this allows us to ensure there is plenty of space for everyone.
Follow the link to book a space - please remember to enter your child’s name.

We look forward to sharing these special memories with you.

Let’s Celebrate…

This week’s learning and virtue role models are:

Focused Cooper Crab: Emmett!
Emmet, you have been trying really hard to be a focused cooper crab during our whole class learning and within your phonics teams. This has helped you to grow your brain even more which we have seen in the discussions and answers that you share. We have also been really impressed with your reading, you are becoming a confident and speedy reader and it’s lovely to see you enjoying decoding and reading words around the room.
Well done Emmett!

Focused Cooper Crab: Sophia!
Sophia, we are really proud of how focused you have been this week and how you have tried your best in all of our activities; from water cycle facts to using your big clear voice on the stage. It’s lovely to see how much you have enjoyed it too!
Keep up this brilliant focus.
Well done Sophia!

Whole School Virtues - Learned and Wise: Cora!
Cora, you are a wonderful role model for our class. You have a wonderful enthusiasm for learning and a love of sharing experiences with your peers; you also help guide others by making good choices and always trying your best. You make our classroom such a happy place to be, with lots of smiles and laughter!
Well done Cora!

Lunch Time Awards:

We also have lunch time certificates which are awarded by the lunch time team to those children who they see being wonderful role models and using marvelous manors:

This weeks role model: Alex!

This weeks marvelous manors: Eliza!

Thank you both for being such wonderful role models and for remembering those acts of kindness everyday!

Challenge Books!

We hope you are enjoying the challenge books together at home. This extra bit of practise really does help and we can see the difference in the children’s writing in school. They are more aware of their letter formation and take time to think about it before they start writing. This is such an important part of our writing development in Reception and will really help us when we move into Year 1.

Thank you so much for your encouragement with this at home.

Optional Challenges!

It is wonderful that the children are so excited about their learning and to see how keen they are to continue this outside of school. We welcome any opportunity to share these learning experiences with you at home, which is why we have created ‘optional challenges’ across each year group which can be explored over this Summer 1 half term.

These challenges link to the wider area of our curriculum which in EYFS are:
Understanding the World (Science, Geography and History), Expressive Arts and Design (Art. DT and Music) and our Gross and Fine motor skills (PE).

Below you will find the optional challenges linking to the topics and areas of learning that we will be exploring this half term. These fun challenges are designed to cover a range of skills without being stressful or time consuming for you at home. You are welcome to complete them in any order you wish and it would be lovely to see pictures or examples of things that the children have enjoyed at home.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Upcoming Events:

  • Reception Assembly - Thursday 23rd May (AM)
We are delighted to invite you into school to watch Reception’s assembly on Thursday 23rd May. This will take place in the morning and there will be two showings (approximately 9:10 / 9:25). You are welcome to join us for either or both. Reception are really proud of how much they have achieved (rightly so!) and they can’t wait to share this learning with you. Please continue to practise lines at home with those big clear voices.
    Thank you.

  • Jim Jam Jog - Monday 17th June 2024 8am
Our annual ‘Jim Jam Jog’ is a fun family event in which we raise awareness and funds for causes within our community. On this day, children and families are invited onto the school field at 8am in their pyjamas to see how many laps of the field they can do! Children will then stay in school in their pyjamas. More information can be found on Mrs Gregans newsletters and on the sponsorship form. Many thanks for your support.

  • Reception & Nursery Sports Day - Tuesday 18th June 2024 13:30
We are delighted to invite you into school to watch our sports day. This is always a fun day in Reception and the children do love your support and cheering!
