Yera 2 weekly Blog Friday December 6th "Jesus is the perfect gift that fits the size of every heart"

On Monday, when the children arrived in class they discovered a Nativity scene on our altar, an advent calendar and the lovely chains they made hanging form the ceiling. Our Advent calendar is made of envelopes. Inside each envelope is an act of kindness - we are challenged to do these each day. On Thursday, in preparation for Christmas, we went to Mass celebrating the Eucharist with our Year 4 class partners. Next week we will be joining them again when we complete the “Advent Prayer Journey to the Stable” this has been set up all around school! In the Gospel, at church, Jesus spoke about the man who builds his house on rock and the man who builds on sand. It helped us reflect on all our hard work this term - we are building on firm foundations!

I know you will be aware that we have pulled our little play together this week. It has been tricky and the children have found it all very challenging. I am hopeful that we will remember everything before we perform for you next week. We had a break from the play today, we will come to it all a fresh on Monday.

We are excited to share it with you all!

MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING

Even though the play has taken up four long sessions this week, we have continued to throw ourselves into the learning in class. In history we revisited Mary Seacole, it was great to make the link between her story and that of Florence Nightingale. In the lesson we were trying to decide if she too should have a statue - we all agreed she should! In Maths we have taken very deliberate steps with our representations to learn how to bridge. This is a crucial skill and I’m so proud at how carefully everyone is listening, following and reasoning! In English we have focused on spelling and placing new words in sentences. This week we explored single and plural nouns. All the nouns we studied ended in y. So we have learnt to: “take off the y and add ies”. In DT we finished making our chairs - this has been a fun project. The chairs came in many shapes and sizes - but they had to hold up! I hope all these creations have found good homes! Miss Lavelle is really enjoying spreadsheets and the children thought it magic when the spreadsheet added their numbers for them! We have made more awards for Character Strengths in class and the highlight of the week was watching the Foundation Nativity - heaven!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

Statues, we walk past them all the time. There are some interesting statues in Lytham St. Annes. Why not go on a walk to find some. Read the plague and find out who it is remembering and why.
