Year 5 Tuesday February 2nd Remote Learning

Good Morning everyone! Mrs Harrison is on a course today so we have two different days running today. They are slightly different! Today the children at home will really concentrate on writing the main body of their news report- carefully following the teaching film - Mrs Hotchkiss models the writing style of a journalist. The children in school will reflect on the model and discuss their work correcting their opening paragraph before completing their writing and editing tomorrow. The children in school will complete their history today with Miss Coupe while the children at home will complete this work tomorrow as they will have completed their extended writing challenge.

MATHS WARM UP - 10 MINUTES ON TT ROCKSTARS

Show determination to get those table facts at your finger tips. Remember it isn’t just knowing them it is recalling them quickly too!

LESSON 1 MATHS - LET’S EXPLORE WORD PROBLEM INVOLVING LONG MULTIPLICATION

Let’s go a little deeper today as we solve word problems. Last week we had a go at writing word problems- today we read and interpret them. It is crucial today that we master the bar model as well as the calculations! In addition, when multiplying we often come across comparative questions too, watch the film to find out more!!

I had a glitchy moment when filming this lesson and my face has disappeared - listen carefully though as I am there like a magic maths ghost teachers!!!

LESSON 2 - ENGLISH NEWSPAPER REPORTS READ THIS INTRO WITH CARE - Thanks!!!

Today is a double lesson. The film is long today and a lot to listen to and concentrate on. Because of that, I have made this a double lesson and you only have French to follow (after you have completed your own writing).

Watch Mrs H write her own newspaper report - you need to write your report (main part of the highwayman) on paper today ready to edit and type out tomorrow into Purple Mash. If you wrote part of the text last week you will be able to see the teaching/learning that you needed. It is all about making it read like a newspaper today!

Make sure you use the SUCCESS CRITERIA SHEETS to guide you as you use journalistic sentence openers, brackets and relative clauses

LESSON 3 FRENCH - Today we move onto hobbies!

Click on the image of the French flag and Eifel Tower and open up the link to your French lesson! Have fun!

Soon Madame Jefferson will appear as she makes her own lessons.

The children in school will have her in the flesh!

Well done! Great day! We have our gratitude diaries at school - could you start one at home. Find a quiet space and have some moments with Jesus share the things you are grateful for- simple tiny things. Elise always emails this little list to me each week using her Purple Mash Email account. Reading it always makes my day- send yours too!

See you tomorrow Mrs H xx
