'Nothing can dim the light that shines from within'

Maya Angelou

It had been lovely to see everybody and share what we did over the holiday break. The classroom have been filled with enthusiasm and I have loved seeing how determined we have been to grow our brains in Year 1.

In RE we have learnt about the finding of Jesus in the temple. We retold the story from the Gospel of Luke as a class and thought about how Mary and Joseph would feel and what they said to Jesus when they found him.

Every year Jesus and his parents used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. When Jesus was 12 he stayed behind without his parents knowing it. They thought Jesus was lost they were worried and looked for him everywhere. When they found him he was talking to the teachers! Mary and Joseph were so happy to find him. Jesus didn't realise his parents were looking for him as he was so busy doing God’s work.

English: We retold the Gruffalo outside and have been hot seating the characters, answering questions about them. Our writing has been brilliant! I am encouraging the children to be independent writers by thinking and using their phoics knowledge to help support them.

Maths: We have continued looking at the symbols greater than > equal to = and less than < please can you practise drawing and recognising these at home.

Science: we looked at our class tree and saw that all the leaves had fallen off. We discussed signs of Winter and went outside to explore.

Computing: We have continued our coding unit, we repeated the challenge we did in December to give the fish a clear set of instuctions to follow so they would move. As a class we gave instructions for the bubbles to move. These two tasks will be set again as homework so you can try them at home.

PE: we started our Gymnastics unit today and performed a simple routnine, straight walk- pencil roll- caterpillar walk- straight jump. See if your child can remember their routine.
