'Our family is a circle of Strength, founded by Faith, joined by Love and kept by God.'

Our first full week in Reception has flown by but we’ve had so much fun! The children have continued to impress us with their care and compassion for one another and for their new environment. This week, the focus has continued to be on supporting the children as they settle into their new school journey, their new classroom environment and new friendships. As you may have heard, we have also met our final five Learning Characters this week! These characters have helped us to explore how we can become brave and determined learners, to think about ways we can grow our brains by being curious, and how we can reflect on our achievements and set ourselves goals. Reception are already striving to be like all of our learning characters and with lots of enthusiasm for the year ahead!
You can find out more about these characters below…

What have we been learning this week…

RE - This week we have been thinking about family. We thought about our families outside of school and the new school family that we are now a part of. We visited our worship area in school where we reflected on another very special family that we all a part of - God’s family.
In the worship area, Mrs Gregan has created a family tree. She has asked all of the children in school to draw their self portrait which will be displayed proudly on the tree. Reception have been busy painting their portraits this week and we look forward to sharing more pictures of these with you next week.

Phonics - This week we looked at the letter ‘m’ and practised how to make the sound and write the letter using the rhyme ‘Maisie mountain mountain’. Reception were certainly focused Cooper Crabs and brave Tommy Turtles when it came to practising the letter formation. We tried to remember to start at the top and they didn’t give up - we were so impressed! We also thought about words that have the ‘m’ initial sound and had so many ideas that we had to make a book!

This weeks’ learning characters…

Across school, our learning characters are used to help develop children’s growth mindset and to encourage positivity. This week we have met our final five learning characters. As a class we talked about how we can be brave and determined when faced with a challenge, how we can demonstrate a curiosity towards the world around us and how reflecting on our achievements can help us to be the best we can be.

The learning characters have been hugely successful across school, with children referring to them independently and building their confidence on a daily basis.
