‘God Save the King!’

It’s been a wonderful week full of joy and celebration as we have gathered together as a school community to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. We enjoyed a very royal Friday and it was lovely to see the children come to school in their royal clothes and red, white and blue colours. We talked about the coronation and why this is an important event for our country and we had great fun acting out the coronation too! Reception were so excited to hear that they would be joining the whole school for a special coronation picnic!

What have we been learning this week?

Phonics: The children are continuing to impress us with their speedy reading and their confidence is growing each week. Alongside the reading, we practise spelling words using Fred fingers to help us hear the sounds and write sentences based on the book we have been reading. The children are so proud of their writing and what they can achieve; it has also been wonderful to see so much of the children’s own writing in their water facts too.

Maths: This week we have been thinking about composition of number and how numbers 5,6 and 7 are made e.g. “ 5 is made of 3 and 2, 3 and 2 make 5”. We challenge ourselves to think of the different ways these numbers can be made (number bonds), e.g. “5 is made of 4 and 1, 4 and 1 make 5”. Our goal is to become speedy with these number bonds by the end of Reception. I wonder if you can tell your grown ups the different ways we can make 5?

Understanding the world: We’ve had a fabulous week sharing our water facts and we have all learnt some interesting new information. We’ve enjoyed news reports, pirate sightings, looked at some fabulous pictures and diagrams and shared scientific experiments! We are looking forward to discovering even more over the next few weeks.

Let’s Celebrate!

Kiki Creative Chameleon - Benji
Benji, you did some amazing writing in our Drawing Club this week and we were so impressed with the amount of detail you added to your picture. You described what the ‘Night Pirates’ were doing and even used some of our new vocabulary (ascend) in your description! We can’t wait to read your next piece of writing!
Well done Benji!

Focused Cooper Crab - Theo
Theo, you were a focused Cooper Crab in our phonics lesson this week and took your time with our reading and writing challenges. You recognised that being focused helps us to grow our brain and it was great to see how proud you were of your work; we were very proud too! Keep up this great focus.
Well done Theo!

Butterfly Award - Attentive: Annabelle

Annabelle, you have really thought about what it means to be attentive and how this helps you to notice how others are feeling and if they need help. Without being asked, you noticed what others were doing and offered your help without expecting any reward. Thank you for showing us how important it is to be attentive and how this virtue helps us to help others.
Well done Annabelle!

Important Notices & Polite Reminders:

  • Polite reminder to please make sure that all uniform is clearly labelled. As the weather is getting warmer PE jackets, jumpers and cardigans are getting mixed up. If items are clearly labelled, the children are able to check by themselves which is great for developing their independence. Thank you for your support.
