Magic moments
RE
We had a lovely class liturgy this week where the children chose some objects out of our box to discuss and share with the class, we also sang shine Jesus shine. They chose a book about the birth of Jesus and a large set of rosary beads.
We discussed Jesus welcoming the children this week. We thought about why the disciples turned them away, why Jesus asked them to come back and how the children might have felt when he blessed them. We thought about what we might have said to Jesus if he had blessed us and we spoke about what things we had to show us that God loves us. The children came up with lots of lovely things such as love, friendship, family, happiness and coming to school.
English and Maths
We spent our week innovating the story of Where the Wild Things Are and changing lots of aspects within it to make it our own. The children have created a new story map ready to re write their new story next week.
Maths was all about making comparisons between height and length, comparing mass and learning about volume and capacity and what these words mean.
History and Science
We looked further into Learie Constantine this week and discussed the different things that made him significant. The children then made posters about five things that they thought made him an important person.
This week in Science we looked at what food tells us about an animal. We learnt the words herbivore, carnivore and omnivore and what it means to be each once of these. We discussed what we are as humans and that not everyone is the same as some people are vegetarian, meaning that they aren’t an omnivore.
Conversation starter : What is a herbivore, omnivore and a carnivore?
Going Deeper…
When does your brain feel busy or full?
What can you do in these situations?

Important information and reminders.
Our reading challenge has been a huge hit! Already we have seen lots of children move up to the first planet and receive their award for doing so. Each week we will be checking if your child has read their Read Write Inc book 4 times, this doesn’t need to be the whole book, it can be sections where you come back to the next page another night. On a Wednesday we will have a little celebration at the end of the day where we give out certificates and prizes for those who have completed the challenge.
A reminder about Parent’s Day on Friday 14th February, if you haven’t yet booked a slot please make sure you do this ASAP!
Last week I briefly mentioned that in March we will be taking part in a tea dance. This is a gorgeous event and will be so lovely for both yourselves and the children. 10 year one classes from different schools come together at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood to perform a dance for each other created around the theme of a book. As we are reading Peter Rabbit next half term, I thought it would be lovely to tie these two things together and perform a dance all about Peter Rabbit. We have already started practising and the children are already very excited about this and over the next couple of weeks we will be letting you know all about costumes for your child. The tea dance will be held on Tuesday 11th March at the Marine Hall, starting at 12.30pm. Tickets are not yet available for this, but as soon as they go on sale I will let you know. It is not a big venue and as 10 schools are going I would suggest that if you want to come see it in person to book your tickets as soon as they come out.
