Magic moments
RE
In RE this week we read about the birth of Jesus. We read the story in the Bible and the children came up with lots of things they knew a new born baby needs when they are born. We drew a picture of how we think the first Christmas day looked in our books and remembered why Christmas is so important.
As you may be aware, we started learning and practising our Nativity songs, as Nativity season is fast approaching. Our Nativities for you to come and watch will be held on Wednesday 11th December at 9.30am and Thursday 12th December at 9.30am.
Please see the additional blog on Monday for an audio of all the songs for you to sing along to at home.
Tickets for the Nativity will be available for you to buy from today.
Today is also the first day of sending home the Travelling Nativity. You will keep this for one night with your child and bring it back to school the next day. Inside the bag are two books, the Nativity set and a journal. Feel free to use this journal to draw pictures of your experiences and reflections with your children and take pictures of these experiences too! If you send these to me over email I will be happy to print these out for you.
English
This week we read some more of our new book - Dangerous! We learnt a little more about our two main characters - Mole and Crocodile and wrote some fantastic independent sentences. The children are getting really good at using the word ‘and’ in their sentences to join ideas together.
We took part in a noun and an adjective hunt this week, we looked at the adjectives, talked about them and what they mean. We learnt what a noun and an adjective is and then we put this to practise. The children went around our classroom and outdoor area labelling nouns just like Mole does in our story.
Maths
Maths this week has been all about counting to and from 20.
Thank you to those of you who have been practising this at home, I have seen an improvement in a lot of the children in only three days!
This knowledge will inform next weeks work as we begin comparing numbers.
Science
We started our topic this week all about plants. What is a plant? What are the different parts of a plant? What are they for? We played plant bingo and managed to label our diagrams brilliantly.
As a part of this lesson, we looked at why plants are so important and that we shouldn’t pick flowers as some very special mini beasts need them. The children discussed the bee’s and the butterflies and decided that as a part of our star charter this year, to care for our common home we are going to help care for the bee’s!
A conversation starter - what is the most important part of a plant? Why?
Geography
Geography this week was learning all about human and physical features. What are they? Where are they? Can you think of any examples? The children got this really quickly and by the end of the lesson were all experts.
Next week we begin looking at the 7 continents.
Conversation starter - what is a birds eye view?
PE
We had lots of fun with Mr Nay this week in PE doing all things kicking. The children had a fantastic session and loved their time outside.
We began gymnastics this week! This was all about different jumps and rolls and having self belief, being able to focus on what we can do to improve.
Going deeper.
During My Happy Mind this week, we did some recapping. We used our brains to remember what we had already learnt. The children remembered all the character strengths and were able to match up the strengths and what they are able to do. For our activity we thought about how as a class we have used all of the strengths and made a prediction of which character strength we were going to use most this week.
A conversation starter - what character strength have you used most this week?
IN HRSE this week we started our me, my body and my health topic. We looked at different people and learnt that we are all unique and that we should celebrate these differences.
Lots of children in our class can speak in different languages and this was very exciting because each one was able to show off something different and unique about them! We spent the last 10 minutes of our lesson speaking to each other in different languages.
We are all special and we are all made and loved by God.
Lets celebrate!
Well done to our certificate winners this week, we have had a determined learner in Emmett and a focused learner in Eliza. You have both worked brilliantly this week and we are very proud of you, keep it up.
Our Virtue Star this week goes to…. Elijah! You have been so intentional all week, super focused and ready to learn! You are always making the right choices, well done!
Our lunchtime winners this week are Theo and April. Our role model was Theo and April had excellent manners. Well done you two!
Important information and reminders.
As a part of our Geography this half term I would love to take the children out on a walk round St Annes to spot physical and human features in our area. This will also link in with our Science lessons as whilst we are on this walk we can also spot some plants and tree’s. I am planning on doing this on Monday 18th November at 1pm. I would love to invite you to join us on this walk, if you are able to help please let me know. I will be sending out permission forms for this at the beginning of next week, please look out for this in your child’s reading pack.
On Thursday 14th, we will be hosting our Year One coffee morning and book look so you can come into school and see all the fantastic work your children are doing. I hope to see lots of you there.
On Friday 15th it is schools PJ day to raise money for Brian House. Please send your children in their PJ’s, their teddy and £1 towards our fundraising, thank you.
As we are now in the midst of Autumn and are seeing all the weather changes, the field has become quite muddy, Mrs Gregan has asked that the children bring in some old trainers for the children to play outside in. It helps to keep school nice and tidy, but also the children’s clothing clean - thank you.
A big thank you to those parents that came and helped with yesterday’s DT session, it was hugely appreciated!
